Off we go…into the wild blue yonder….

Well, this is it.  Tomorrow is not only the celebration of our nation’s independence, but tomorrow I set forth on a 16 day journey to bring a new citizen into its fold.

What a crazy time the last few weeks have been. I finally shut down the work computer, cleaned up the dishes, ran through the last load of laundry and closed up the last suitcase.  I am finally able to sit down and ponder the wonder of it all.  I guess it is not often in our life we have the opportunity to go on a real adventure.  I have been a long time fan of Indiana Jones and those wonderful quest movies where we see someone step off onto a thrilling journey.  So, I confess that while I am extremely nervous about overcoming the LONG flight, and not speaking a word of Mandarin, I am excited to once again have an adventure in my life.

It was almost 12 years ago that I traveled around the globe to bring home Julia, who is a true blessing in my life.  I never thought I would make this journey again.  But sometimes, destiny has other plans for us. So I am once again heading out into the unknown with only my faith and the love and support of my family to guide me. Of course, the real journey of this tale is only beginning with a plane ride to a foreign land.  The true journey is what comes after the travel.  The true journey is being a parent and growing our family.

When I went to Russia all those years ago, I did not truly understand what being a parent meant.  Nor did I really appreciate what a gift being a parent and being part of a family can be in our lives.

I was very lucky to grow up with two wonderful parents who taught me the meaning of family.  Family is about being there for each other, no matter what the circumstance.  Family is loving someone…even when they drive you crazy.  Family is about being a part of something bigger than yourself.  Family is about accepting someone for who they are…even when you don’t really understand them.

In 5 days time, our family will grow once again and there will be a new person to not only watch grow up, but to grow with.  This is a new journey which I plan to embrace with an open mind and an open heart.   I hope over the next two weeks you will enjoy watching our online journey.  Further, I hope over the coming years you will enjoy watching Lily become part of the Krautkramer family, and help share the journey of our lives together.

Thanks to all of you for the warm wishes and supportive messages.  I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July and look forward to seeing you all when we return home.
